How much sod is on a pallet?

A common question we get in the office is "How much sod comes on a pallet"?

The answer: It depends! Our harvester cutting 600 square feet of DuraBlend Tall Fescue

All of our cool season sod (DuraBlend Tall Fescue, HD2000 Kentucky Bluegrass, RTF, and Black Beauty Tall Fescue) are cut in 10 square foot rolls and stacked 60 rolls per pallet.  This means each pallet contains 600 square feet (or 67 square yards) of sod.

Warm season grass (Zoysia Sod and Bermuda Sod) is cut in 5 square foot slabs and stacked 100 slabs per pallet.  Each pallet therefore contains 500 square feet of sod (56 square yards). Why are Zoysia and Bermuda grasses stacked flat instead of rolled?  It is actually because the warm season grasses do not produce a thick mat of roots close to the surface like cool season grasses do.  This makes warm season sod much more tender.  The smaller flat pieces are easier to work with since you have to be careful when handling them.
